Nat Turner Project is offering five artists a stipend of $1000 each, as well as an opportunity to exhibit their work at Oregon Contemporary from Nov 2023-Jan 2024.
This is the second year of NTP’s Drinking Gourd Fellowship (DGF), a program we created specifically as a vehicle to disperse studio visits, exhibition opportunities, and grants to Black and POC Portland-based artists. The DGF is for artists of any age, medium, style, and experience.

In an effort to address inequity, we are prioritizing artists who exist at the intersections of 2 or more of the following communities: Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Disabled, Immigrant, Trans, Elder, Queer, and Low Income, especially Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Applications are DUE April 2nd, 11:59PM
All finalists will be notified by April 9th.
Fellows will be notified by May 8th,
and Public Announcements will be made by May 12th
Requirements:
Must be a current resident of Oregon
Must identify as BIPOC
Past recipients are not eligible for this cycle
Finalists will be required to participate in a one hour Studio Visit
Drinking Gourd Fellows will be required to sign a contract agreeing to present their work in an exhibition at Oregon Contemporary in Nov 2023
Drinking Gourd Fellows will be required to participate in an in-progress Studio Visit, prior to their exhibition
Accessibility: Studio Visits have an option of being conducted via Zoom OR in-person for accessibility reasons. In addition, we have attempted to streamline the application process by accepting a wide variety of response formats.
Additional information: Panelists, which change from year to year, will consist of Nat Turner Project, as well as Black Portland luminaries across multiple industries.
