Aesthetics of Dislocation is a body of work that explores migration and heritage through the unreliability of memory.

Aruni Dharmakirthi is a Sri Lankan born, interdisciplinary artist and educator based in the US. They received a BA in Studio Art and Art History from Florida State University and an MFA in Visual Studies at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Their work has been shown nationally and internationally in galleries including Disjecta in Portland, OR and Sonam Studios in Mumbai, India. the thing about aruni

aruni dharmakirthi is a dear friend, and at one time room mate and collaborator. i am a personal fan of aruni’s work. the color, the dreamyness, but also the precision of a finely sharpened dagger. working with aruni was a dream, and we have hopes to work with them again.

aruni was NTP’s second artist and took a chance on know nothing misfit kids. aruni’s installation comprised of a projected video, zine, and some text & image posters. aruni’s use of text and color fuse to form a cloudy poetry of memories, and past places distant but yet familiar. the video consists of aruni’s recent trip to sri lanka ( where she was born and lived before moving to usa at four),  the striking visuals of a place fragmented by the artists request against the walls of a stall and bathroom. the dynamism of that imagery is coupled with aruni’s zines that were available during the show. the zines were made of a single page folded into 8ths with art on both sides, to read one way then fold out. aruni catches you with all the feels in a gentle yet deliberate slow stab of the beauty of their art.
